Chiral condensate and topological susceptibility in the 2-flavour Schwinger model

Abstract: HMC histories for light dynamical overlap fermions tend to stay in a fixed topological sector for many trajectories, so that the different sectors are not sampled properly. Therefore the suitable summation of observables, which have been measured in separate sectors, is a major challenge. We explore several techniques for this issue, based on data for the chiral condensate and the (analogue of the) pion mass in the 2-flavour Schwinger model with dynamical overlap-hypercube fermions.

“…On the other hand, the BCNW formula is promising for applications in QCD, where typical simulations take place at Q 2 = O (10). This observation is supported by studies in the Schwinger model [12,15,17], the quantum rotor with a potential [14] and in 4d SU (2) gauge theory [16], which will be reported in detail in Ref. [13].…”

“…A method to derive from them an approximate result for the physical value (properly summed over all sectors) has been suggested in Ref. [31] and tested successfully in the 2-flavor Schwinger model [32]. The tremendous efforts to simulate QCD with dynamical overlap quarks are reviewed in Ref.…”
