Childhood obesity in specialist care – searching for a healthy obese child

Abstract: Most obese children in specialist care have cardiovascular risk factors; this indicates that earlier intervention is needed.

“…The data for this longitudinal study were derived from the patient records of 654 (54% boys) children aged 2–18 years who were treated for obesity in the paediatric units of Kuopio University Hospital, Mikkeli Central Hospital or North Karelia Central Hospital, the three major hospitals in eastern Finland. The children in this study were included in our previous report on 900 children evaluated for obesity in specialist care between 2005 and 2012 .
