Child sexual abuse is serious in any developing country confronting children’s sexual exploitation. Certain factors are liable for fostering child sexual abuse, and the media can play a significant role in eradicating this issue. This research scrutinized the portrayals of child sexual abuse in three Urdu-Pakistani newspapers by analyzing the role of the newspapers concerning the burgeoning prevalence of child sexual abuse based on seven categories proposed by UNICEF. The data were generated in 2019 using a purposive sampling technique and analyzed using content analysis. The results revealed that the newspapers analyzed followed different ethical guidelines in reporting child sexual abuse, indicating that news reports contained details of helplines for victims. Statistically, the study found a strong and significant relationship between child sexual abuse cases and newspapers’ reporting, recommending scrutinizing other aspects of child sexual abuse, especially pornography, to ensure a safer future for children in Pakistan.

Child maltreatment is a global issue deeply rooted in cultural, economic, and social practices. The present study investigates the representation of child abuse in the mainstream newspapers of Pakistan (i.e., Dawn and The News) from 2013 to 2020. This specific time frame is that these cases increased during these years. The data regarding the child abuse cases were accessed from the LexisNexis database. A computational technique of topic modeling (Latent Dirichlet Allocations) was applied to discover the hidden topics from the filtered data. The study underpinned Computational Grounded Theory as a theoretical frame for this study. The results reveal topics related to awareness of child abuse, the types of child abuse, and the law and procedural matters specific to child abuse cases in Pakistan. The study brings possible implications that child protection laws are to be improved to overcome the menace of child abuse in Pakistan.

The present qualitative study is aimed to explore the role of the lived experiences among child molesters in the urban and rural areas of Punjab, Pakistan. The purpose of this study was to find out the basic difference and reasons behind child sexual abuse in urban and rural areas. The present study also contributed to some new insights into the problem. 12 semi-structured interviews were conducted in the selected areas (Jhelum Gujrat). The content validity of the interview guide was checked through the expert opinion of the ethical committee in the field of qualitative research. The purposive sampling technique was used to include child molesters in the study. Respondents pointed out the role of their own lived experiences in child molestation. Some of them have reported that they had faced child abuse in childhood and some of them pointed out that it has happened incidentally. The study suggests that every individual has his own personal schemas of sex experiences which led them toward child molestation. There are huge socio-economic and developmental differences in child molesters of urban and rural areas.
