Introduction: Child sexual abuse (CSA) is an endemic threat to health. Although research on the subject has advanced considerably, there are few studies that have considered the perspectives of the region. Objective: This study sought to analyze the research trends of CSA in Latin America and the Caribbean, emphasizing on its productivity as well as the evolution of the conceptual structure. Method: For this study, a longitudinal bibliometric mapping of co-words in articles indexed in the Web of Science was conducted utilizing SciMAT. Results: Findings revealed an increase in the volume and impact of the articles published on this topic. The core corresponds to 35 articles, mostly quantitative, and published as part of international collaborations. The conceptual structure of the field addresses 19 topics with Maltreatment and Child Sexual Abuse; Risk Factors; and Family and Experiences considered as key themes; whereas Street Children and Emotional Abuse could be considered an emerging topic. Conclusions: Findings suggest that although research focusing on CSA has been continuous and steady, a process of diversification on the topics of study within this field is emerging. Lastly, the scientific community could use the research findings to identify thematic areas of interest.

Paris 2024 ambitionne d’établir un nouveau modèle de grand événement sportif international (GESI) durable en s’appuyant sur l’agenda 2020+5. En plaçant les Jeux sous l’angle d’un projet de société ambitieux, les organisateurs suscitent beaucoup d’espérance sur de nombreuses dimensions (touristiques, économiques, sociales), alors que les précédentes olympiades ainsi que le grand nombre d’inconnues liées à la candidature puis à l’organisation pourrait justifier la prudence. Précisément, la littérature académique se caractérise par une approche nuancée des impacts des événements sportifs. En effet, la prégnance actuelle de la notion d’héritage ne doit pas occulter des décennies de recherche scientifique sur la complexité de chacune des dimensions censées la constituer. Nous proposons ici une revue de littérature de ces travaux qui portent sur la mesure, l’analyse ou l’évaluation des impacts économiques, sociaux, touristiques et environnementaux. Ils se caractérisent par une forme de complexité et sont grevés d’effets contre-intuitifs qui doivent être appréhendés pour saisir le potentiel rôle structurant de l’événement sur son territoire hôte. Cette contribution ambitionne de donner des clefs de compréhension aux chercheurs ou aux étudiants qui s’intéressent à ces questions de l’impact des événements sportifs car malgré les difficultés méthodologiques qui jalonnent cette thématique, les GESI restent de précieux révélateurs des dynamiques démocratiques, sociétales et politiques à l’œuvre dans nos sociétés.

The Context of Sexual Exploitation of Children by Tourists and Travelers: A Cross-National Comparison of Destination Countries and Non-Destination Countries

Certain countries are well known for being destination countries for sexual exploitation of children in the context of travel and tourism (SECTT). Various factors are assumed to be at play to increase the vulnerability of countries, and the children that live within them, to being destinations for SECTT. The current study uses a cross-national, quantitative approach to examine these assumptions, by investigating macro-level factors relating to tourism, children's living conditions, governance, and economic development that may account for the variation in SECTT occurrence. Our findings indicate that destination countries are, on average, characterized by lower economic wealth and are located closer to the equator. Unlike assumed in previous literature, governance and tourism are not significantly related to destination countries for SECTT. The results for children's living conditions are unexpected: while bivariate analyses show that destination countries have poorer children's living conditions, a positive relation emerges in multivariate models when controlled for economic development. More specifically, we find that within the group of countries with poor economic conditions, SECTT is more likely to occur in countries with better protection of children's rights to life and education. We explore potential explanations for this finding.
