“…Second , in the majority of the analyzed maternal/neonatal cohorts, only symptomatic neonatal infections were reported which might have underestimated the true MTCT-risk. Third , we could not identify published cohorts with an English abstract with pertinent data for our quantitative data synthesis from the majority of countries with recent CHIKV outbreaks; such as outbreaks in African[ 5 ] [ 12 ] and Asian countries[ 14 , 95 97 ], including large outbreaks in India[ 98 104 ] after the 2005 reemergence of CHIKV in India, outbreaks in the Carribeans [ 32 , 105 , 106 ], Pacific Island[ 78 ] and Saudi Arabia. [ 107 ] Language-bias is also a possible reason for this phenomenon.…”

“…Even though CHIKV infections have not been officially reported in Ghana, autochthonous cases or outbreaks have been reported in Ghana's neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Benin, and Nigeria in recent years [18,19]. This coupled with the presence of an active vector population in Ghana, international travel, and trade among West African countries increases the risk of an outbreak in the nearest future.…”

“…This genotype circulates in the western sub-Saharan regions of Africa and hasn’t been identified outside of this region. It has been documented in periodic outbreaks in Senegal and Nigeria and is typically associated with dengue-like illness accompanied by arthralgia [26,27,45,90,115,116,117,118]. In children, the disease is a minor and self-limiting febrile illness with no debilitating or neurological sequelae reported, even in recent outbreaks (Table 1) [45].…”
