Abstract:This study explores the implications of CEO entrepreneurial orientation for firm performance through corporate dynamic capabilities. It explores the moderating effects of firm industry type on the above indirect effect. Based on 188 matched sample data collected from vice chief executive officers (CEOs) of Chinese firms, this study found that CEO entrepreneurial orientation was positively related to corporate dynamic capabilities and firm performance and that corporate dynamic capabilities mediated the positiv… Show more
“…Thirdly, it can clarify the boundary conditions of supply chain dynamic capability to improve supply chain process ambidexterity, namely, the moderator of networking ability. Liu et al (2021) pointed out that exploring the process mechanism of performance output from both individual and organizational levels is more consistent with the enterprise core competence transition process. Therefore, exploring the realization mechanism of supply chain process ambidexterity is reasonable from the perspectives of leadership factors and dynamic capability.…”
Based on dynamic capability theory, this paper aims to explore the influence of green supply chain information integration (IT system integration and information sharing) on supply chain process ambidexterity (efficiency and flexibility) and expounds on the mediation mechanisms (supply chain dynamic capability) and the boundary condition (networking ability) between the two. Through the sample data test research model of 351 managers of manufacturing enterprises, it is found that information technology (IT) system integration can effectively promote the information sharing level of green supply chain enterprises. Supply chain dynamic capability partially mediates the influence of IT system integration and information sharing on supply chain process ambidexterity. Moreover, networking ability positively moderates the relationship between absorptive capacity, innovation capacity, and supply chain process ambidexterity, but does not play a significant role in the relationship between adaptive capacity and supply chain process ambidexterity.

“…Indeed, because many EO studies are conducted with individual top managers existing within a team of top managers, it is not always easy to disaggregate whether the individuals reported their own beliefs and behaviors or those of the collective TMT. Indeed, there is a small but growing body of literature, nominally studying CEO-EO (e.g., Keil et al, 2017; Liu et al, 2021), that blurs the line by making firm and individual EO synonymous and linking them to firm-level outcomes.…”

“…Ind.EO could be very useful in understanding how it influences both the presence of and variations within the entrepreneurial management and leadership styles. Interestingly, there has been a recent trend of those seeking to blur the line between firm EO and the Ind.EO of the CEO (Liu et al, 2021; Wang, Jiang, et al, 2021). Deeper study into this is inevitable and it will be especially useful for understanding Ind.EO research inside the C-suite, particularly with the CEO.…”

Entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is an important construct in the fields of management and entrepreneurship research. Interest in EO knowledge continues to thrive with a burgeoning research agenda in multiple contexts and with diverse implications. However, a subset of this research, which endeavors to apply the EO construct to explain or predict individuals’ entrepreneurial beliefs and behaviors, has met with resistance. This paper examines the case for EO at the individual level (Ind.EO). We consider the EO legacy concerns, and the various theoretical implications and benefits of doing so. Drawing upon an “EO as a family of constructs” framework, we propose paths forward for studying Ind.EO credibly, consistent with, but distinct from, traditional firm-level EO. Finally, we outline a research agenda and discuss the contributions and potential implications for Ind.EO research across the wider entrepreneurship discipline.
“…In addition, the existing literature suggests that entrepreneurial orientation is enacted and strengthened by various individuals within the organization (Liu et al, 2021). Previous studies have specifically underscored the crucial role of entrepreneurial leadership in fostering entrepreneurial orientation (Nguyen et al, 2021).…”

PurposeWith the focus on the context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), this study aims to investigate the joint effects of entrepreneurial leadership, entrepreneurial orientation and dynamic capabilities and the mechanisms of how these factors influence firm performance.Design/methodology/approachA survey from 319 managers in information and communications technology SMEs in Vietnam was conducted, and structural equation modeling was adopted to analyze the collected data.FindingsThe results confirm that dynamic capabilities directly influence firm performance and serve as a mediator that connects entrepreneurial leadership and entrepreneurial orientation with firm performance. Additionally, entrepreneurial leadership was found to have a significant positive impact on entrepreneurial orientation.Originality/valueThis research augments the understanding of entrepreneurship and dynamic capabilities literature by examining the joint effects and mechanisms of how entrepreneurial leadership, entrepreneurial orientation and dynamic capabilities interact to enhance SMEs' performance. Furthermore, this study provides empirical evidence of the strategies that SMEs should pursue to attain favorable performance outcomes.
