Dimethyldioxirane oxidation of the methylthio substituted complex 24 gave a product dominated by diastereoisomer Y (26x:26y = 10:90) whilst oxidation of the tert-butylthio substituted complex 25 gave a product dominated by diastereoisomer X (27x : 27y 3 98 : 2). Sulfinate anion precursors are still synthesized by the preparation and oxidation of the corresponding sulfides, whereas radical processes have not yet provided an accessible route to simple sulfoxides. Considering the main challenges, especially the availability and unpleasant odor of thiol materials, it would be quite promising to develop a method for sulfoxide synthesis that does not include thiol and sulfide intermediates that could realize step efficiency and the pleasure of chemists.…”
