Chemistry of Some Organotin Compounds

Abstract: Organotin compounds (OTCs) are characterized as having at minimum one covalent bond between carbon and tin atoms, and are usually denoted by the formula RnSnX4-n (n =1-3, R =aryl or alkyl, X =halogen ion or a carboxylate, etc.). There are several methods to synthesis organotin compounds, they are Grignard and Kocheshkov reactions, Wurtz reaction and alkylation method. The tin has two stable state,(II) and (IV). Sn(II) forms pyramidal sp3complexes as well as trigonal bipyramidal … Show more

“…It is known that the presence of one or more covalent C-Sn bonds affects the activity of the compound and depends on the number and nature of alkyl substituents (R) associated with the Sn-center. The effect of RnSnX4-n compounds containing various R groups (R = Me, Et, Pr and Bu), as shown by a meta-analysis, depends on the type and number of R groups, and the biological activity decreases in the following series: n-Bu > Ph and Et > Me (Ghani and Yousif 2021). The chemical structure also explains the selectivity of the pharmacological action on various test systems in vitro.…”

“…Numerous industries, including those in the biological sciences, utilize organotin (IV) compounds in various applications [30][31][32][33]. Hence, it can be divided into three major fields of utilization: as thermal stabilizers to prevent degradation of several chlorinated substances, including transformer oils, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated rubbers, paraffin, and modified plastics; industrial catalysts for a variety of chemical processes, such as the production of polyurethane foam goods and vulcanizing agents for silicone rubbers; and as biocidal properties for utilizing as agricultural fungicides, herbicides, bactericides such as hospital-use disinfectants and other applications [34,35].…”
