Chemistry of diarylazoalkanes. I. Synthesis of <i>p</i>,<i>p</i>′-disubstituted azocumenes and their decomposition products

Die Titelverbindungen l c (n -3-7) und2c (n = 3-7) wurden dargestellt und ihre Thermolysen priparativ und kinetisch untersucht. 1 c (n = 3) thermolysiert zweistufig unter primarer Spaltung der Peroxidbindung und anschlieBender Decarboxylierung, 2c (n-3) vermutlich unterValenzisomerisierung zit 3-Phenyl-l-(l-phenylcyclopropyl)-2-pyrazolin. Konformative Ringgrooeneffekte beeinflussen die Zerfallsgeschwindigkeit der I-Phenyl-I-cycloalkanperoxycarbonsaure-tert-butylester lc (n = 4-7) nicht, die der 1,l '-Diphenylazocycloalkane 2 c (n = 4-7) aber stark und charakteristisch. Die Ergebnisse werden durch die unterschiedliche Lage des ubergangszustandes der homolytischen Fragmentierung der Perc Azoalkane gedeutet. Aliphatic Azo Compounds, III '). Conformational ring size cffects have littlc influence on the rate of homolytic fragmentation of l c (n = 4-7). They arc responsible, however, for the large and characteristic changes i n the rate of thermolysis in the series of azocycloalkancs 2c (n = 4-7).
