Chemistry of acetylenic ethers XXVIII: α,α‐Dichlorodiethyl ether and its use for the preparation of acyl chlorides

Abstract: Addition of two equivalents of hydrogen chloride to ethoxyacetylene yields α,α‐dichlorodiethyl ether (III). This substance reacts easily with carboxylic acids to yield acyl chlorides (X). α, α, β ‐Trichlorodiethyl ether (XIII), obtainable in two steps from trichloroethene (XI), shows the same reaction.
