Abstract

This review details the isolation, biosynthesis, biological activity and synthesisof α-hydroxy ketone (acyloin) natural products. The role of these compoundsas biosynthetic precursors to complex natural products and synthetic strategiesto access the sensitive acyloin moiety and stereochemistry are highlighted.
