The chemistry of organotellurium compounds has developed very rapidly during the recent decades. Tellurium reagents find uses in various aspects of synthetic organic chemistry. Organometallic complexes with tellurolato or telluroether ligands show potential application in the fabrication of new materials for electronic devices. The present article emphasizes the preparation and structural characterization of some of the main classes of organic tellurium compounds and their organometallic complexes that are deemed of interest for inorganic chemists.
