ChemInform Abstract: THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF 5F ELEMENTS

Abstract: Die von Nugent, Burnett und Morss (1 973)definierte Funktion P(M) wird anhand neuer experimenteller Daten modifiziert und scheint nun eine lineare Funktion der Ordnungszahl der Actiniden zu sein.

“…In aqueous solution, first indications were deduced from chemical [9] and electrochemical experiments [10] initiated at Orsay in 1962-1965 through interpretation of amalgam formation [11] and radiopolarographic experiments [12]. These amalgamation studies were completed by Maly et al [13,14] especially for heavy actinide elements.…”

“…But its direct production by Cm(III) oxidation is difficult due to the high potential of the Cm(IV)/Cm(III) pair [151,152]. The stability of +2 state of oxidation on the whole increases with rising TPE atomic number [151], and the Fm(III)/Fm(II) pair has the same oxidation potential as the Yb(III)/Yb(II) pair [153], It has been shown [154] that Fm(III) can be reduced to Fm(II) by electrolysis on mercury cathode.…”

“…For example, the shift for trivalent actinides from non-complexing to citrate media should be -200 mV for a reversible reaction (p = 2 and log β = 12 [9]). The observed shift (see Cf and Es results in Table 1) is larger than -300 mV, indicating an irreversible reaction [10],…”
