ChemInform Abstract: The Chemistry of (η5‐C5H5)Fe(CO)2H Revisited.

Abstract: 272ChemInform Abstract The title compound can be stabilized at ambient temperature. The degradation of this hydride, giving H2 and the dimer ((C5H5)Fe(CO)2)2, appears to be a result of a chain process that is initiated by oxidants. The effects of additives on the rate of degradation in benzene are studied (table). The hydride also undergoes CO substitution and hydride self-exchange reactions. The mechanisms of these processes are discussed.
