Abstract: Handelsübliches β‐Sitosterin (I) wird durch aufeinanderfolgende Acetylierung, katalytische Hydrierung, Hydrolyse und Oxidation in das Keton (II) umgewandelt, das bei Reaktion mit Äthylformiat in Gegenwart von Na‐äthoxid unter N2 und anschließendem Ansäuem in das Hydroxyke‐ ton (III) übergeht.
