Abstract

The conversion of the amines (I) to sulfonamides (III) is followed by reaction with formaldehyde, generated from (VI), in an acidic medium to yield (IV) (analogues with a five‐ or nine‐membered heterocyclic moiety cannot be prepared by this procedure).
