Abstract

ChemInform Abstract The fused furans mentioned in the title, e.g. (III), (IV), or (VII), are prepared either by oxidative coupling of phenols such as (I) followed by dehydrative cyclization of (II) and aluminum trichloride-induced dealkylation, or by cyclocondensation of phenols such as (V) with the dichloroquinone (VI). Numerous further examples are given in the original paper.
