Acid-Catalyzed Aryl Hydroxylation of Phenylazopyridines: Reaction Intermediates, Kinetics and Mechanism.-Whereas azo compounds (Ia) and (Ib) are hydroxylated to yield p-hydroxyphenyl compounds (IIa) and (IIb), resp., along with reduction products (4-aminophenol and the corresponding aminopyridine), azo compound (Ic) does not react to give (IIc).
