ChemInform Abstract: Sm3Cl[SiO4]2: A Chlorine‐Poor Chloride Orthosilicate of Samarium.

Abstract: structure structure (solids and liquids) D 2000 -010Sm 3 Cl[SiO 4 ] 2 : A Chlorine-Poor Chloride Orthosilicate of Samarium.-Single crystals of the title compound are obtained from the reaction of SmCl 3 , Sm 2 O 3 , and SiO 2 in a NaCl flux (evacuated quartz tube, 850 • C, 7 d). Sm 3 Cl[SiO 4 ] 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with Z = 4 and is isotypic with Yb 3 Cl[SiO 4 ] 2 . The structure consists of anionic double layers, ∞ 2 [Sm 2 (SiO 4 ) 2 2− ], which alternate with cationic ∞ 2 [SmCl… Show more
