Abstract:Regioselective Bromination of Methoxy Derivatives of Ethyl Indole-2carboxylate (Synthetic Studies of Indoles and Related Compounds. Part 30.). -The bromination of various methoxy-substituted indoles such as (I) is investigated. Using bromine in acetic acid, the attack mainly occurs on the benzene moiety, whereas bromination with NBS in DMF (or pyridinium bromide perbromide in pyridine) yields the 3-bromo derivatives (II) exclusively.
