Abstract

Reaction of 3-Methyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one N,N-Dimethylhydrazone with . alpha.,β-Unsaturated Carbonyl Compounds. A Novel Synthesis of Bicyclic Compounds.-The mixture of syn-and anti-isomers of the dimethylhydrazone (I) reacts with methyl vinyl ketone (IIa) or the acrylic acid derivatives ( IIb) and (IIc) to yield the bicyclic ketones (III) and (IV) after acidic work-up. The reaction proceeds with satisfactory to good yields in DMF or HMPA as the solvent. Hydrocarbons such as hexane or benzene are not suitable for that purpose. -(MATSUMIYA, K.; GUO, Y.
