ChemInform Abstract: Preparation of Ferrates(VI) of Alkali Metals.

Abstract: 033ChemInform Abstract A novel method of preparation of the title compounds Na4FeO5, K2FeO4 and Cs2FeO4 is described, which affords these free of any impurity. Fe is present exclusively in the hexavalent state, as is evidenced by Moessbauer spectra. The title compounds are prepared from the alkali peroxides and Fe2O3 in a stream of oxygen at elevated temperatures. The conditions necessary for the preparation of pure samples are determined in detail. They are to be strictly regarded.

An X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of 20 samples prepared showed the set of reflections similar to those found for Na 4 FeO 5 [10]. No additional reflections belong-ing to the initial compounds (Fe 2 O 3 and Na 2 O 2 ), ferrate(IV), ferrate(III), and Na 2 CO 3 , which can be formed in the presence of air, were observed.…”
