ChemInform Abstract: Photolysis of Some N‐Nitroso‐ and N‐Nitro‐anilines in Solution.

Abstract

1997 photochemistry, radiation chemistry, chemoluminescence photochemistry, radiation chemistry, chemoluminescence O 0160 -075Photolysis of Some N-Nitroso-and N-Nitro-anilines in Solution. -The product composition of the title reaction is influenced by the solvent character and the presence/absence of oxygen. Three novel mechanistic conclusions are proposed: Photosolvolysis of nitrosamine ( Ia) in methanol to yield (III), photooxidation of nitrosamines, e.g. ( Ib), in aprotic solvents (benzene) to give nitro derivative (IIb), and photolysis of nitro-substituted nitrosamines, e.g. (Ia), and nitramines, e.g. (IIa), in aromatic solvents to give biphenyl derivative (IV), respectively. -(GOWENLOCK, B.
