ChemInform Abstract: Imidazolium‐Based Phosphinite Ionic Liquid (IL‐OPPh2) as Reusable Catalyst and Solvent for the Knoevenagel Condensation Reaction.

Abstract: A new method for the synthesis of (E)‐acrylates/benzylidenemalononitriles (III) and coumarins (VI) via Knoevenagel condensation of appropriate benz‐ or salicylaldehydes with active methylene compounds is described.

“…The reaction needs to be carried out in the presence of 2-hydroxy benzaldehydes 8 and coupling partner 9 containing an active methylene group in the presence of the base under heating conditions. The yield obtained from coumarin product 10 is acceptable range [44]. The proposed plausible mechanism of this reaction is shown in Figure 6.Thereare various reports present in the literature regarding the synthesis of scaffolds of coumarin via Knoevenagel reaction in the presence of ultrasound solvent-free conditions [45,46].…”

“…Afterward, the synthesis and applications of phosphinite-imidazolium salts have also become an effective field of study. Phosphiniteimidazolium salts were used as catalysts in the preparation of phthalate and maleate diesters, 3,4dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-(thio)ones, E-cinnamates, and coumarin derivatives by Valizadeh et al [9][10][11][12]. Iranpoor et al, using these compounds, investigated the catalytic efficiency of aryl halides in dehalogenation, silylation, and Heck reactions in the presence of PdCl2 [13][14][15].…”
