ChemInform Abstract: Electrically Controlled Release of Fe(CN)4‐ 6 from Polypyrrole.

Abstract: 095ChemInform Abstract The anodic polymerization of pyrrole onto glassy carbon in the presence of aqueous K4Fe(CN)6 gives a polypyrrole which incorporates Fe(CN)63-. The polymerization process, the release of Fe(CN)64-and the binding of cations are investigated by chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

“…34 Indeed, diffusion of small oligopyrrole toward the substrate is critical to sustainable film deposition; when this diffusion is stopped by strong solution stirring, deposition of PPy film ceases in lockstep. 35 Diffusion of large pyrrole oligomers, on the other hand, adversely distorts on-substrate chain arrangement and generates nodular aggregation. 36 Because large oligomers are generated primarily through consecutive deprotonation coupling of smaller intermediates, their number increases rapidly at either high current density (i) or extended synthesis time (t), making suppressing i and t into a moderate range of crucial importance.…”

“…after the electrodeposition just by dipping in a solution containing the functional dopant. In fact, the reverse reaction, that is, the retrodiffusion of the functional dopant in a renewed solution cannot be avoided, even though it had been exploited in a certain manner for the electrocontrolled release of species (Figure 1.2b) [118][119][120]. A fruitful method to increase the ratio of dopants versus monomeric units consisted in the grafting of an additional positive charge on the pyrrole unit via an alkylammonium substituent [121].…”

“…This cationic pseudodoping is also performed when the anionic dopant, usually sulfonate, is directly grafted on the conjugated polymer skeleton (self-doped polymers [136][137][138][139][140][141][142]) or is a pending group of an ionomeric polymer such as Nafion  [136,143,144] or polystyrene sulfonate [145,146]. Such interpenetrated polymeric networks [70] were investigated for applications in batteries [71,117], water deionization [71,117], and electrochemical delivery of drugs [118][119][120]. This last example was pioneered by Miller for the electrodelivery of dopamine [147].…”

“…En buen acuerdo con estudios anteriores (13,(17)(18)(19), hemos observado que cuando se llevan a cabo voltamperogramas cíclicos o cronoamperometrías en medio acuoso sobre los materiales PPi/Fe(CN) 6 preparados química o electroquí-micamente, existe al menos una desintercalación parcial del anión electroactivo al exterior de la matriz polimérica y hacia el electrolito acuoso, donde puede ser identificado por varios métodos.…”
