ChemInform Abstract: Efficient Hydrogenation of Imines over Fe and ZnO Powder in a Self‐Neutralizing Acidic CO2—H2O System.

Abstract: Hydrogenation of imines [(I) and (III)] is accomplished using an environmentally benign process in the reversible CO2—H2O system where water is thought to be the terminal hydrogen source.

“…41 In situ alkylcarbonic acid/carbonic acid provides environmental benefits from the viewpoint of green chemistry such as selfneutralization, simple postprocessing, and no waste disposal. Notably, combined with various metal powders (Zn, Fe, Pd/C, Pt/Al 2 O 3 ), in situ alkylcarbonic acid/carbonic acid has been reported to realize the reduction of ketones, 42 aldehydes, 43 imines, 44,45 nitroarenes, 46−49 and sulfoxides. 50 We envisaged such protocol could be further extended to the reduction of lignin β-O-4 ketone.…”
