Abstract: 217ChemInform Abstract The phosphoranes (Ia), (Ic), and (Ie) react with bromoacetophenone (II) to produce the phosphonium salts (III) which yield the corresponding 5-oxo-oxazolidine derivatives (IV) upon reaction with sodium methoxide. Depending on the reaction conditions, (I) or (IV) react with hydrogen chloride to yield the compounds (V), (VI), or (VIII).
