Abstract: Chemistry of Nitro Ethers. Part 21. Synthesis of Some Olefins from Nitrates.-Base-mediated denitration of aromatic, heteroaromatic and aliphatic ethyl nitrates (I), (VIII), (X) and (XII) affords the corresponding olefins (II), (IX), (XI) and (XIII), resp., in good yields. In contrast, dibutylamine as well as pyridine do not promote HNO 3 elimination but undergo quaternization to furnish ammonium nitrates (V) and (VII), respectively.
