303ChemInform Abstract The cis-hydridoneopentyl-Pt(II) complex (I) reductively eliminates neopentane and generates the diphosphine-Pt(0) intermediate (II) which is not observed directly. Its intermediacy is inferred from the presence of this moiety in the reaction products. Thus the intermediate (II) reacts with alkyl, trisilylmethyl, aryl, and benzyl C-H bonds to give the hydrido-Pt(II) complexes (IVa)-(IVe). With phosphines, disubstituted alkynes, and olefins (II) forms coordination complexes such as (VI)-(IX). In the reaction of (II) with monosubstituted alkynes e.g. (X) C-H bond addition competes with the coordination of the alkyne; (XI) and (IVf) are obtained. The factors responsible for the reactivity of (II) relative to other coordinatively unsaturated Pt species is discussed.
