Abstract: Binary Caesium-Lanthanum Oxide Supported on MCM-41: A New Stable Heterogeneous Basic Catalyst.-The new title catalyst is prepared by wet or solid state impregnation of the mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 with CsOAc and La(NO3)3· 6H2O followed by drying and calcination. The application of CsLa/MCM-41 materials, which possess thermally stable, small, intraporous CsLaOx clusters, as basic catalysts is demonstrated for the Knoevenagel addition of enolates to benzaldehyde in aqueous media.
