ChemInform Abstract: Acid Leaching of Zinc Ions in Hetaerolite: Topotactic Reaction of Hetaerolite to Form Spinel‐Related Manganese Dioxide.

Abstract: ChemInform Abstract Hetaerolite, ZnMn2O4 (I41/amd), can be converted to a spinel-related MnO2 (Fd3m) by treatment with 1 M HNO3 solution for 3 d at 20 rc C. From the results of XRD studies it is concluded that Zn2+ ions are removed from hetaerolite in a topotactic reaction and confirmed that Zn2+ ions are mobile in a spinel-skeleton structure under appropriate conditions.
