Abstract:A Topological Link Between Lanthanide and Alkali-Metal Clusters: Face-Sharing Gadolinium Octahedra Centered by Endohedral Iridium Atoms in {Ir3Gd11}Br15.-The title compound is prepared by reaction of Gd, GdBr3, and Ir in a 3:4:1 molar ratio (Ta container, 1123 K, 13 d). It crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P63/m with Z = 2 (single crystal XRD). The structure contains isolated {Ir3Gd11} cluster trimers formed by three face-sharing IrGd 6 octahedra.
