Abstract

structure structure (solids and liquids) D 2000 -002A New Family of Compounds with Tetrahedral Anions: PbnBiOn(XO 4 ), X: V, P, As, n = 1, 2, 4. A Comparison with Lead Oxysulfates PbnPbOn(SO 4 ).-The title compounds are synthesized by solid state reactions of stoichiometric mixtures of PbO, Bi 2 O 3 , V 2 O 3 , and (NH 4 ) 2 HXO 4 (X: P, As) (Au crucibles, 700 • C). As revealed by powder XRD the compounds Pb 4 BiO 4 (XO 4 ) (X: V, As, P) crystallize in the triclinic system with Z = 2. The As containing compound Pb 2 BiO 2 (XO 4 ) has a monoclinic lattice with Z = 8 and the P containing compound has orthorhombic symmetry with Z = 4.
