Chemiluminescent Identification and Quantification of Artemisinin and Relevant Sesquiterpene Lactone Derivatives

Abstract: A simple, sensitive, and rapid chemiluminescence method was developed for the detection and quantification of selected derivatives of artemisinin. It was found that the chemiluminescence (CL) signal resulting from the alkaline luminol reaction of the artemisinin derivatives in the presence of hematin was linear over a wide concentration range. We report results that suggest that a visual test or a test involving digital image capture may be used in addition to a field-ready instrumental approach to combat drug… Show more

“…It can be quantified using luminol and hematin in the sodium hydroxide solution. 26 Before the probe can be used to test drug samples, a series of optimization and validation tests (the limit of detection/quantification (LOD/LOQ), specificity, repeatability, and robustness) was performed using the spectrophotometer. To make the platform field deployable, a microfluidic chip was designed to carry the mixing of the probe and API and their luminescent reaction.…”

“…On the other hand, as an advanced technique of analysis, chemiluminescence (CL) has received remarkable attention. [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] It is characterized by high sensitivity and simple instrumentation compared with other spectrophotometric techniques. In comparison with other optical detection methods such as fluorescence, Raman spectroscopy and absorption, the process of CL has a wide linear range, uses an inexpensive apparatus, has a fast response time, high sensitivity, and no interference from background scattering light.…”
