Chemical properties of the coffee grounds and poultry eggshells mixture in terms of soil improver

Abstract: Spent coffee grounds (SCG) as well as chicken (CES) or duck eggshells (DES) left over from the artificial hatching technology are proposed as potential soil improver and/or organic-mineral fertiliser components. Therefore, it seems interesting and necessary to evaluate the chemical composition of these wastes and their mixtures in terms of their possible use for that purpose. The study was conducted under the incubation experiment conditions using a mixture of SCG and eggshells (10:1 ratio). Macronutrients, i.… Show more

“…Soil contamination with heavy metals is becoming a worldwide threat due to its adverse impacts on environmental safety (Saleem et al 2020g;Zhang et al 2013). Anthropogenic activities especially application of agrochemicals are the major sources of heavy metals accumulation in soil (Antonkiewicz et al 2018;Ashraf et al 2017;Tombarkiewicz et al 2022;Yang et al 2018). The inorganic and organic fertilizers (Fertilizer is a substance Fig.…”

“…Among them, the preparation of solid fuel could be a potential application of SCGs. Till now, most recent studies relating to SCG valorization have primarily been limited to soil conditioner [13], energy storage [14], adsorbent [15], biodiesel [16], and bio-crude oil [17]. Aside from these applications, SCG could be an excellent source for producing solid fuel.…”

“…The carbon and oxygen in spent coffee grounds comprise almost 84% and 12% in an atomic ratio [18]. The main content of the macronutrients of spent coffee grounds in g/kg of dry matter (DM) is 500.34 carbon, 1.77 calcium, 25.61 nitrogen, 1.53 phosphorus, 1.48 magnesium, 5.06 potassium, 0.13 sodium, and 0.87 sulphur [19]. Coffee spent grounds are used as organic mineral fertilizers or soil conditioner [19].…”

Rice husk (RH) represents at least 20% of the rough rice weight, which yields about 1.5 × 1011 kg/year, placing it among the most abundant agricultural product worldwide.…”
