“Chemical Peel Recipe”—An easy and quick method of peel preparation in resource‐limited settings

Abstract

To the Editor, Chemical peeling or chemo-exfoliation is the application of a chemical agent to the skin, which causes controlled destruction followed by regeneration. 1 Chemical peeling continues to be the gold standard in cosmetic practice. 2 Commercially available ready-made peels (such as Neostrata, Cosderma, and Sesderma, etc.) may not be affordable to low-income patients. Different concentrations are required to treat various skin conditions. Acquiring different peel concentrations imposes a financial burden on physicians and patients. Therefore, freshly prepared peels may seem cost-effective. 3 However, there is a paucity of literature in this regard. We detail methods to prepare commonly used chemical peels with easily available ingredients in Table 1 (and Video S1).The limitations of this technique include variable shelf life and difficulty in making combination peels. However, when chemically analyzed, the prepared solutions, when appropriately stored, were stable for up to 3 months. Clinical (in vivo) therapeutic effects were noticeable in patients (Figure 1A-F).
