Chemical modification of styrene–butadiene–styrene co-polymer by grafting of N-carbamyl maleamic acid

Abstract: A styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) block copolymer was functionalized using different amounts of N-carbamyl maleamic acid (NCMA) and benzoyl peroxide as initiator. The NCMA, which is a bifunctional monomer, was synthesized in our laboratories. The concentration of NCMA used in the functionalization of SBS ranged from 0.5 to 3%w/w based on the copolymer mass. Benzoyloxy radicals generated from the thermal decomposition of benzoyl peroxide initiated the grafting reaction. The concentration of the initiator was kep… Show more

“…On the basis of the previous discussion, we sought to prepare a new polymer‐supported Schiff base which combines nitrogen (‐NH 2 ), oxygen (CO), and mercaptopropyl (‐SH) groups. Polymer‐supported Schiff base has different applications such as environmental, biological, and biomedical . In addition, this kind of polymer would have the ability to adsorb metal ions and to remove dyes, organic matter, and proteins from the aquatic environment.…”
