Chemical Effects of the 31P(n,γ)32P Reaction in K4P2O7

Abstract: Anhydrous potassium pyrophosphate (K 4 P 2 0 7 ) was reactorirradiated under different well-defined conditions with the special aim of studying the possible formation of 32 P-labelled anions with three or more phosphorous atoms. The total yield (~7%) of normal tri-and polyphosphates was much lower than expected and previously found with similar compounds. It is suggested that condensed phosphates are primarily formed with 32 P in a reduced state, and that these species are partly annealed before the analyses. … Show more
