The influence of planting mixtures of two potato cultivars on the incidence of leafminer fly {Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard)) and on damage to potato foliage, and the effect on growth and yield, was studied in two field experiments in coastal Peru. Climatic differences between the two years of the experiments (1983 and 1984) had a greater effect than did cultivar mixtures on adult fly populations and on the numbers of feeding punctures and pupae per leaflet. Mixtures reduced the number of pupae in the tolerant cultivar, but increased it in the susceptible cultivar; in contrast, mixed planting tended to decrease the adult populations and feeding punctures in the susceptible cultivar of each mixture. In neither year did mixture yields or intercepted radiation exceed those of the highest-yielding sole crop, although land equivalent ratios (LER) reached 1.19. Considering the cultivars' different maturity rates and their tuber growth curves, it is probable that the later maturing cultivar of each mixture was able to exploit available light after, and perhaps even before, senescence of the earlier cultivar. Mixed planting of potato could be beneficial but only to farmers who plant both early and late cultivars, under conditions where the early harvest commands a premium price.Plantation mixta de variedades de cultivo depapa: cretimiento, rendimienlo,y darios ocasionadospor el alaque de Liriomyza huidobrensis {Blanchard) en la zona tropical moderada. RESUMENEn la zona costera del Peru se llevaron a cabo dos experimentos de campo para estudiar la influencia del cultivo mixto de dos variedades de papas sobre la incidencia de Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard), y sobre el dano al follaje, y su efecto respecto del crecimiento y el rendimiento. Las diferencias climaticas entre los dos anos de los experimentos (1983 y 1984) tuvieron un mayor efecto que la mezcla de variedades de cultivo, sobre las poblaciones de insectos adultos, y sobre la cantidad de perforaciones de alimentacion y ninfas por hoja. Las mezclas redujeron la cantidad de ninfas en la variedad tolerante, pero la incrementaron en la variedad susceptible. Por el contrario, el cultivo mixto tendio a reducir las poblaciones adultas y las perforaciones de alimentacion en la variedad susceptible de cada mezcla. Ni los rendimientos de las mezclas, ni la radiacion interceptada excedieron los del cultivo unico de mayor rendimiento en ninguno de los dos anos, si bien las proporciones equivalentes en el suelo alcanzaron un 1,19. Si se tienen en cuenta las diversas tasas de maduracion de cada variedad y las correspondientes curvas de desarrollo de tuberculos, resulta probable que la variedad con maduracion mas tardia dentro de cada mezcla haya podido explotar la luz disponible despues, y tal vez antes, de la senectud de la variedad mas temprana. La siembra mixta de la papa podrfa ser beneficiosa, pero solo para agricultores que plantan tanto variedades tempranas como variedades tardias, bajo condiciones segiin las cuales la cosecha temprana obtiene un precio superior...

Um experimento foi realizado para verificar a eficiência de inseticidas aplicados em diferentes dosagens para controle de L. huidobrensis. Foram delineados blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, com sete tratamentos, onde cada parcela possuía dimensões de 3m x 4m. Os produtos testados foram terbufos nas dosagens de 13, 17 e 20 kg/ha, carbofuran na dosagem de 25 kg/ha, aldicarbe na dosagem de 13 kg/ha e thiamethoxan na dosagem de 0,2 kg/ha. A aplicação foi feita diretamente no sulco sobre a batata-semente, durante o plantio em dose única para todos os tratamentos. Para avaliação foram coletadas 20 folhas de cada tratamento em diferentes épocas: 15, 30 e 45 dias após a emergência das plantas, as quais foram mantidas em sacos de papel por cinco dias e, após este período, foram contadas o número de pupas existentes em cada amostra. A estimativa da produtividade foi feita por amostragem, colhendo as plantas em 2m de linha de plantio. Os inseticidas que resultaram em 80% de controle dos insetos foram considerados eficazes. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que o Counter 150G, na concentração de 20kg/ha, foi eficiente no controle das larvas da mosca minadoura, L. heudobrensis, em plantas de batata até 30 dias após a emergência. Não houve diferença estatística significativa na produtividade (rendimento) obtida neste tratamento, quando comparado com o da testemunha.
