The results of this study made it possible to determine the contents of five trace metals (Cd, Cr, Hg, Pb, Zn) of two fish species (Oreochromis niloticus and Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus) collected in Lake Kossou and to verify if their consumption constitutes a risk to human health. The concentrations of trace metals (in mg/kg wet weight) in both fish species were in the following ranges: 0 to 0.95 mg / kg for lead (Pb), 0 to 0.06 mg / kg for cadmium (Cd), 0 to 0.206 mg / kg for mercury (Hg), 0.03 mg / kg to 0.415 mg / kg for copper (Cu), and 0.103 mg / kg to 0.769 mg / kg for zinc (Zn). The average concentrations obtained were overall below the threshold values recommended by the Joint FAO / WHO Committee and the European Commission. However, a few fish recorded lead and cadmium levels above these standards. The distribution of metals in species was in many cases higher in Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus. Moreover, the values of the hazard quotients (HQ) of metals, linked to the consumption of fish by adults and children, have all been found Assessments … SOUSSOU Yao Idriss et al.
