Mucormycosis, also referred to as Zygomycosis, is chiefly caused by filamentous moulds belonging to the Mucorales group. It can be acquired through inhaling spores, consuming contaminated food, or through injury to the skin. Currently, the second most prevalent fungal infection disease is mucormycosis. It gained greatest attention following the COVID-19 pandemic. The review mainly focuses on several outlines like its history, epidemiology, pathophysiology, types, diagnosis and treatment of mucormycosis. In treatment of mucormycosis, conventional therapy against mucormycosis and some antifungal agents has been discussed. Several diverse contagious ailments were conventionally cured utilizing a widespread series of medicinal plants. Given that India is at the forefront of the Ayurvedic and Siddha medical systems, traditional herbal medicine from India is highly well-known. Antifungal chemicals derived from plants can be a viable option for developing novel and enhanced alternative formulations in the field of antifungal medicine. The main focus on the review is to explore the potential plants having the antifungal activity used for treatment of mucormycosis. Some of the plants with antifungal activity has been explained which includes garlic, tea tree oil, aloe vera, thyme, turmeric, neem, eucalyptus, clove, goldenseal, calendula, lavender, guduchi, and oregano. Animal models for mucormycosis study has been explained in the review.

Fitocosméticos são cosméticos que contêm substâncias de origem vegetal como seu princípio ativo, como o óleo essencial de Melaleuca (OEM). A incorporação de óleos essenciais em formas farmacêuticas é um desafio farmacotécnico devido à sua volatilidade, oxidação e estabilidade. Tem-se por objetivo desenvolver e avaliar aspectos físico-químicos e microbiológicos de formulações fitocosméticas (emulsão óleo/água e oleogel) de uso tópico contendo OEM. A composição do OEM foi caracterizada através de Cromatografia Gasosa acoplada à Espectrometria de Massas (GC-MS) do OEM puro e extraído das formulações após testes de estabilidade. As formulações desenvolvidas foram submetidas a testes físico-químicos, de estabilidade e microbiológicos. A emulsão apresentou sinais de instabilidade e variação de pH significativas após submissão aos testes de estabilidade por ciclo gela-degela (p=0,003) e acelerada (TEA) (p=0,02), separando de fases ao final do estudo. O oleogel não apresentou variações significativas em suas características organolépticas e pH (p>0,05). Ambas atenderam aos critérios de aprovação para avaliação microbiológica. Obteve-se teor superior a 30% do marcador do OEM, terpinen-4-ol, conforme a ISO-4730, para a amostra do OEM puro e, após, extraído das formulações submetidas aos TEA. Conclui-se que foi possível desenvolver formulações fitocosméticas minimalistas de uso tópico utilizando componentes de fonte natural ou orgânica certificada.

Foodborne illnesses are a major public health concern, and meat products are one of the most common sources of contamination. Handling and processing raw meat in restaurants can increase the risk of foodborne illnesses if the correct hygiene and safety measures are not followed. Consequently, it is important to conduct a comprehensive assessment of foodborne illness-causing microorganisms to monitor the food safety practices in restaurants and prevent the spread of contamination, protecting public health and ensuring the safety of the food supply chain. In view of this, this study conducted an assessment of local restaurants to identify the prevalence of different foodborne illness-causing microorganisms. A total of 63 samples were collected aseptically using cotton swabs from restaurants in 9 different locations in Al-Mandaq City, Saudi Arabia (7 samples from each location). Klebsiella aerogenes (K. aerogenes), Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) were isolated and identified from each sample using different media. From 63 samples, 91 isolates of pathogenic bacteria were isolated from 9 restaurants. Higher prevalence was found in location 7, where the number of isolates was 17, while the lowest pathogenic load was observed in location 2, where the number of isolates was 8. Among the samples, the highest number of pathogenic isolates was observed in raw foods (22), followed by samples collected from the tools (18). Of the 109 bacterial counts, S. aureus contributed 43.12%, followed by S. epidermidis (42.2%), Salmonella spp. (6.42%), and K. aerogenes (4.58%). The frequency of E. coli occurrence was low (2.75%) in all the samples collected from the nine locations.
