Os radicais livres são responsáveis por causar muitas doenças crônicas e degenerativas. Os antioxidantes são substâncias capazes de eliminar radicais livres e impedi-los de causar danos celulares. Neste contexto, a atividade antioxidante dos extratos alcoólicos das folhas de Anacardium occidentale e Myracrodruon urundeuva foi avaliada pelos métodos de 2,2-difenil-1-picrilhidrazil (DPPH) e 2,2'-azinobis-(3-etil-benzothiazolin-6-sulfónico ácido) (ABTS). O conteúdo fenólico e análise fitoquímica dos extratos também foram avaliados. As duas espécies exibiram atividade sequestradora de radicais livres. Estes resultados estão relacionados com alto teor de compostos fenólicos encontrados nos extratos. M. urundeuva mostrou atividade antioxidante semelhante ao butilhidroxitolueno (BHT), se tornando uma fonte promissora de antioxidante natural. Antioxidants are substances capable of scavenging free radicals and preventing cell damage. In this context, antioxidant activity of alcoholic extracts from leaves of Anacardium occidentale and Myracrodruon urundeuva was evaluated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl DPPH and 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethyl-benzothiazolin-6-sulfonic acid) ABTS methods. Phenolic content and phytochemical analysis were performed for each species. Results showed that both species exhibited free radical scavenging activity. These results are directly related to high phenolic content found in the extracts. M. urundeuva showed antioxidant activity similar to butylhydroxytoluene (BHT) and could be considered a promising plant source of natural antioxidant.

Spondias tuberosa Arruda, popularly named as umbu, is native from savanna-like vegetation and widely used for medicinal purposes, however, the toxicological profile is not available yet. This study evaluated the phytochemical profile and acute toxicity and citoxicity of Ethanolic Extract of Spondias tuberosa Arruda Bark (EEStb) in hematological, biochemical and histopathological parameters. Female Wistar rats were divided into: control (C) and animal treated single doses of 300mg/Kg (EEStb 300 ) or 2.000mg/kg body weight (ESStb 2.000 ) of the EEStb. After 24 hours and 14 days from gavage, the behavior, hematological, biochemical and histopathological parameters were assayed. Cytotoxicity effect was evaluated on HEp-2 cell lines. Neither EEStb 300 nor EEStb 2.000 produced mortality nor changes in body weight during the 14-days of observation, but EEStb 2.000 reduced quietly the food and water intake as well as locomotor activity at first day. There were no changes in macroscopic, histopathological, biochemical and hematological parameters. EEStb in concentrations of 6.25-50μg ml −1 on HEp-2 cell did not produce cytotoxic effect. These results suggest that EEStb did not cause acute toxicity and cytotoxic, suggesting a good safety rate for Spondias tuberosa Arruda.

Resumo. As plantas medicinais vêm acompanhando a humanidade desde a sua existência, sendo utilizadas como: remédios, rituais, tinturas, dentre outras. Cientistas de todo o mundo estudam o efeito medicinal de diversas plantas. A planta Morinda citrifolia Linn., conhecida popularmente como noni, apresenta na medicina empírica diversas capacidades farmacológicas a fim de curar enfermos. Esta pesquisa busca identificar metabólitos secundários bioativos presentes na folha e fruto do noni, e avaliar apenas o potencial antioxidante da folha. Os materiais vegetais, folhas e frutos foram coletados no horto de plantas medicinais do IFCE -Campus Quixadá. Fez-se extração etanólica (75%), testes fitoquímicos da folha e do fruto e somente determinação antioxidante pelo método DPPH da folha. O fruto apresentou resultado positivo para catequinas, flavonas, flavonóis, leucoantocianidinas, saponinas, taninos flobabê-nicos e xantonas, já a folha apresentou resultado positivo para flavonas, flavonóis, saponinas, taninos flobabênicos, xantonas mas também demonstrou eficiente capacidade antioxidante possuindo EC 50 igual a 4,27 ± 0,004 g/L e linearidade de 99,54%. Sugere-se que a folha e o fruto sejam eficazes para o desenvolvimento de setores alimentícios e farmacêuticos, pois apresentam constituintes fitoquímicos e antioxidantes capazes de combater e prevenir enfermidades.Palavras-chaves: Antioxidante. Scientists around the world are studying the effect of various medicinal plants. The Morinda citrifolia Linn. plant, commonly known as noni presents empirical medicine several pharmacological capabilities in order to heal the sick. This research aims to identify bioactive secondary metabolites present in the leaf and fruit of noni, and evaluate only the antioxidant potential of the sheet. The plant material, leaves and fruits were collected in the garden of medicinal plants IFCECampus Quixadá. There was ethanol extraction (75%), phytochemicals tests of leaf and fruit and only determination antioxidant of sheet, by the method DPPH. The fruit has a positive result for catechins, flavones, flavonoids, leucoanthocyanidins, saponins, tannins and xanthones, since the sheet was positive for flavones, flavonols, saponins, tannins, xanthones but also demonstrated efficient antioxidant capacity having EC 50 equal to 4,27 ± 0,004 g/L and linearity 99.54%. It is suggested that leaf and fruit are effective for the development of food and pharmaceutical sectors, as they present phytochemical constituents and antioxidants can combat and prevent diseases.
