Chemical composition and nutritive values of cassava pulp for cattle

Abstract: We evaluated the chemical compositions of cassava pulp samples produced by four cassava starch factories at different locations in northeast Thailand and the metabolizable energy (ME) of the cassava pulp for cattle. There were significant differences in the P (0.03% ± 0.02%) and K (0.36% ± 0.2%) contents of the samples from different factories (p < .05). Moreover, we found interactions between factory and season in the neutral detergent fiber (36.02% ± 8.8%) and nonfibrous carbohydrate contents (59.33% ± 9.1%)… Show more

“…It is mainly used as a raw material for the starch industry, producing a surplus of cassava pulp. Cassava pulp is composed of highly digestible starch and fiber, making it suitable as an alternative energy source for cattle feed [ 15 , 16 , 17 ], especially when compared to rice straw [ 17 , 18 ]. A study by [ 13 ] showed that inclusion of cassava pulp in TMR silage improved preserved nutritional value, feed storage ability, rumen fermentation, digestibility, and enteric methane mitigation in NTC.…”

“…Large tonnages of these leaves are currently discarded as wastes after harvesting the roots [6]. On the one hand, they are popular fertilizers and animal food [7]; on the other hand, on a dry matter basis, cassava leaves abound 25% protein and provide a great amount of calcium, iron, and vitamins C and A. they are also known for their antioxidant function that helps lower the process of aging and promotes the endurance of body against the disease. Cassava leaf protein has important amino acid which is similar to amino acid in the eggs of hen [8].…”
