Coccidiosis have been reported to cause severe economic losses in small ruminants livestock industry. Subclinical coccidiosis is common among small ruminants and clinical occurs mainly in young's animals. Coccidiosis is caused by highly host-specific Eimeria species. Strategies to control traditionally rely on the use of management practices combined with anticoccidial treatments. The development of alternative, safer, and ecofriendly anticoccidial agents have become priority in most parts of the world. Essential oils have been shown to exhibit antiparasitic activity and may control protozoal pathogens. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of Eimeria species in sheep and goats and demonstrated life cycle, clinical signs, diagnosis, treatment and potency use of essential oils in the treatment of coccidiosis.

Continuous and advanced studies are necessary to explore and meet the continuous need of safe plant compounds necessary for pharmaceutical, therapeutic, food and other industries, especially special phytochemicals to be used as herbal and complementary medicine to combat various diseases and disorders. In this review, we highlight the uses of Ricinus communis in traditional medicine for treatment and others since ancient civilizations and its content of chemical compounds with multiple biological and therapeutic effects, including phenolic compounds, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, terpenes and oils and their uses as anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, insecticide and anti-asthma Anti-ulcers, antimalarials, anti-inflammatories, hepatoprotective, bone regeneration, analgesics and anticonvulsants. It is worth noting that Ricinus communis grows in tropical and subtropical regions widely distributed throughout the world and the active substances are found in various parts of the plant, which necessitated that we focus the light on the plant and its multiple benefits and its rich effective compounds to further clinical, experimental and advanced studies to explore more and verify safety prospects.

The article reviews traditional Mediterranean herbs and spices frequently used in the Mediterranean cuisine, as well as wild medicinal plants most used as natural therapeutics among the people in the Mediterranean basin. Their high phytonutrient content and their diversity are highlighted. Bioactive compounds, such as allicin, apigenin, quercetin, kaemferol, rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid, luteolin, thymol, and others, are briefly described along with their therapeutical effects. The herbs, spices, and medicinal plants are vital constituents of the Mediterranean dietary pattern and lifestyle, known as the Mediterranean Diet (MD), and significantly contribute to the high antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory character of the diet and its health and well‐being benefits. The first Mediterranean herbal pyramid including the herbs, spices, and medicinal plants of the region is proposed.
