Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of Wild Garlic Allium ursinum of Bulgarian Origin

Abstract: The chemical composition of fresh flowers from Allium ursinum (ramsons, bear's garlic, wild garlic) growing in Bulgaria has been studied. Thymidine (1), adenosine (2), astragalin (kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (3), kaempferol-3-O-β-Dglucopyranosyl-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (4), kaempferol-3-O-β-D-neohesperoside (5), and kaempferol-3-O-β-Dneohesperoside-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (6) were isolated from the n-butanol extract and identified by different spectroscopic and spectrometric methods. Thymine (7), uridin… Show more

“…Allium species, such as garlic and chives, contain various organosulfur compounds, such as ajoene, vinyldithiins, DADS, and DATS [3438]. In the present study, we focused on the effects of GO and CO on the hippocampus-dependent neurogenesis and memory formation in naïve mice.…”

“…However, drug resistance in cancer is still a challenge when attempting to cure the disease, and current therapeutic combinations used to treat gastric cancer are not fully effective. The A. ursinum plant has been reported to have antioxidative, cytostatic, and antimicrobial activity 13. However, the mechanism of the antitumor activity of ramson has been unclear.…”

“…The severity of infections caused by Candida is determined by the balance between the pathogenicity of the microorganism and the host’s defence mechanism and involves damage to the immune system [6]. Genus Candida includes yeast fungi-forms which reproduce by budding and forming blastospores.…”
