Checklists of Species of Ancylodiscoidid and Ancyrocephalid Monogeneans from Fishes of Iraq

Abstract: Surveying 59 references concerning the occurrence of the monogeneans of the families Ancylodiscoididae and Ancyrocephalidae parasitizing fishes of Iraq showed the occurrence of 11 taxa of the family Ancylodiscoididae (genera Ancylodiscoides, Bychowskyella, Chauhanellus, Hamatopeduncularia and Thaparocleidus) and 19 taxa of the family Ancyrocephalidae (genera Ancyrocephalus, Cichlidogyrus, Cleidodiscus, Haliotrema, Ligophorus and Mastacembelocleidus). These monogeneans were reported from 19 valid fish host spec… Show more

“…This study presents the first record of G. sprostonae in the southern hemisphere and from a new, indigenous host, L. aeneus. The parasite was previously reported from indigenous and invasive hosts across the northern hemisphere (e.g., Abdullah 2013; Barzega et al 2018; Bykhovskaya-Pavlovskaya et al 1964; Daghigh Roohi et al 2019; Ling 1962; Mattheis & Glaser 1970; Mhaisen & Abdul-Ameer 2013; Ogawa & Egusa 1978; Pugachev et al 2009), mostly from its type hosts, C. carpio and C. auratus (e.g., Daghigh Roohi et al 2019; Ling, 1962; Mendoza-Garfias et al 2017; Ogawa & Egusa 1978). Cyprinus carpio has been reported as a host of several invasive monogenean parasites in the Vaal River system such as G. kherulensis, Dactylogyrus extensus Mueller & Cleave, 1932 and Dactylogyrus minutus Kulweic, 1927 (Crafford et al 2014b).…”

“…This article is a continuation of some previous checklists on some groups of fish parasites of Iraq, such as those of acanthocephalan species , Gyrodactylus species (Mhaisen & Abdul-Ameer, 2013), diplozoid species (Mhaisen & Abdul-Ameer, 2014), Dactylogyrus species (Mhaisen & Abdul-Ameer, 2019a), ancylodiscoidid and ancyrocephalid species (Mhaisen & Abdul-Ameer, 2019b), Trichodina species (Mhaisen & Abdul-Ameer, 2020) and Myxobolus species (Mhaisen & Al-Jawda, 2020).…”

“…The present article is designed to review the results of surveys on parasites of cage fishes of Iraq and provide parasite-host and hostparasite lists. This article represents a continuation to some recent checklists on some groups of fish parasites of Iraq, such as those on Dactylogyrus species (Mhaisen and Abdul-Ameer, 2019a), ancylodiscoidid and ancyrocephalid monogenetic species (Mhaisen and Abdul-Ameer, 2019b), Trichodina species (Mhaisen and Abdul-Ameer, 2020), Myxobolus species (Mhaisen and Al-Jawda, 2020), Lernaea species (Mhaisen and Abdul-Ameer, 2021a) and Contracaecum species (Mhaisen and Abdul-Ameer, 2021b).…”
