An accumulation of fleas that constitute the Hastriter flea collection includes accounts/records of 167 species over 48 years. These officially belong to the Brigham Young University flea collection. They are summarized in this treatise with identifications of new state, county, and provicincial records from the United States, Canada, and some species that extend south into México. Records included are represented by eight families that are presented in alphabetical order (Ceratophyllidae, Ctenopthalmidae, Hystrichopsyllidae, Ischnopsyllidae, Leptopsyllidae, Pulicidae, Rhopalopsyllidae, and Vermipsyllidae). Major synonomies are provided with each species (excluding very common and cosmopolitan species) with major political subdivisions following each reference/pagination. Two appendices are included that list important references (not included in synonomies) (Appendix I) and a listing of synonyms for the family Ceratophyllidae (Appendix II). Four tables are included that list new geographical records and one table that notes new host records. Seventy-eight flea species (some of the same species were new for different state, county and provincial records) accounted for 129 new U.S. state or Canadian provincial records. These also included 12 new state records. An additional 15 new host records for 13 different flea species were documented. To aid future investigations, significant research findings such as disease investigations, zoonotic disease control measures, seasonal bionomics, et cetera are annotated in the remarks.

We present an updated checklist of helminth species infecting cricetid and heteromyid rodents (Rodentia: Cricetidae and Heteromyidae) distributed in Mexico. For each helminth record, we include information on helminth taxonomy, location within the host, life stage, host associations, collection localities, citation, and museum collections, when available. We recorded more than 73 helminth species from 47 host species distributed across 21 states in Mexico. The present list represents the most up-to-date knowledge of helminth species infecting cricetid and heteromyid rodents in Mexico. En el presente trabajo se da a conocer el registro actualizado de los helmintos parásitos que se encuentran en roedores cricétidos y heterómyidos (Rodentia: Cricetidae y Heteromyidae) distribuidos en México. Para cada registro de helminto se incluye la información taxonómica, su localización en el huésped así como su estado de desarrollo y asociación con éste; además de proveer los datos del lugar de colecta, la citas bibliográficas donde han sido registrados y los datos de la colección donde se encuentran depositados, siempre y cuando los datos estén disponibles. Se enlistan más de 73 especies de helmintos que parasitan a 47 especies de huéspedes, distribuidos en 21 estados de la República Mexicana. El presente listado representa el conocimiento más actualizado de las especies de helmintos que infectan roedores cricétidos y heterómidos en México.

The cosmopolitan mite family Laelapidae includes both free-living predatory species and species associated with arthropods, mammals or birds. This work presents a list of free-living and arthropod-associated species of laelapids, with corresponding taxonomic information and references. It includes 1088 species (in addition to three subspecies) assigned to 73 genera, 61 new combinations and two new synonymies at the generic level. Laelaps (Apolaelaps) Silvestri is raised to the generic level. Many of the species described before about 1950 are poorly characterised and cannot be classified with confidence at the family or generic level. Hence, ten genera, one subgenus, 121 species (ca. 70% of which were reported as Hypoaspis Canestrini or Laelaps (Hypoaspis) Canestrini) and one subspecies, are considered incertae sedis, because of their inadequate morphological characterisation in the literature. Some of these may not even belong to the Laelapidae or to the groups of interest for this publication. A total of 89 species, 30 genera, one subgenus, one tribe and one subfamily previously associated with genera treated in this catalogue are now placed in other families or, less commonly, in laelapid genera not considered here because they are considered essentially vertebrate parasites (taxa excluded). Twenty-six other species (one cited as a “variety”) are cited as nomina nuda. An illustrated key to the 73 genera included in the catalogue along with revised generic diagnoses are provided.
