Charophytes (Charophyta) in the Zasavica special nature reserve

Abstract: Floristic and taxonomic diversity, as well as studies of ecological characteristic of Charophyta algae were carried out within the complex biodiversity researches, in the Zasavica Special Nature Reserve. Nine species were recorded: Chara globularis, C. contraria, C. vulgaris, Nitella mucronata, N. capillaris, N. syncarpa, N. confervacea, Tolypella intricata and T. prolifera. The most common charophyte habitats are shallow, often ephemeral, ponds and puddles in diluvial forests and marshy meadow depressi… Show more

“…Nitella syncarpa occurs in lakes and small water bodies, including temporary ones, in subneutral to alkaline water and under oligo- to eutrophic conditions, mainly in shallow water, occasionally down to 8 m depth (Vesić et al, 2011 [ 235 ], Korte et al, 2014 [ 229 ]). Nothing seems to be known about conditions for oospore germination (A. Holzhausen, pers.…”

“…Nitella confervacea occurs in small water bodies, including temporary ones, and in oligo- to mesotrophic, occasionally even eutrophic lakes, in hard and soft water, mainly in shallow water but occasionally several meters deep (Vesić et al, 2011 [ 235 ], Doege et al, 2014 [ 227 ], Pätzold et al, 2014 [ 230 ], Zinko 2017 [ 1 ]). Nothing seems to be known about oospore germination or culture conditions (A. Holzhausen, pers.…”

“…The territory of Mačva and particularly Srem is rich in SSWB, but charophyte studies are lacking, or the localities were visited only sporadically, without significant findings [88]. A detailed survey of charophytes was conducted in the Zasavica during the period 1998-2010 [100,101] when these macroalgae were detected in even 19 localities. Charophytes were mainly detected in ponds, and particularly interesting are findings in ruts, extremely small and ephemeral habitats made by vehicle passing [88].…”
