Charge Transfer Spectrophotometric Determination of Metronidazole in Pharmaceutical Formulations by Normal and Reverse Flow Injection Analysis Coupled with Solid-Phase Reactor Containing Immobilized FePO4

Abstract: Two rapid, simpleand sensitive flow injection methods were developed for the estimation of metronidazole (MRZ) in pharmaceutical formulations. The proposed methods were based on charge transfer reaction between metol (N-methyl-p-aminophenol sulfate) as a π-acceptorand reduced MRZ as an n-donor to produce a blue colored chargetransfer complex. Method A depends on the reaction of reduced MRZ with metol (MT) in the presence of NaIO4 using two lines manifold to form blue colored product exhibiting absorption maxim… Show more

“…The FIA technique is widely used to analyze a broad range of both inorganic and organic substances [30][31][32]. Among the several FIA types, the normal and reverse modes received high attention [33,34]. The normal mode required injecting a small volume of sample into the reagent carrier stream, which was then transported through a thin bore tube to a spectrophotometer, where the derivative was measured.…”

“…Metronidazole (MRZ) has a chemical formula C6H9N3O3, it is a chemically consists of 2-(2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl) ethanol, it is soluble in the acetone and alcohols, but quite unsalable in water (Figure -1) [1][2][3] [4]. Metronidazole used as an ant-parasitic and antibacterial agent [1]. Following the discovery of azomycin antibiotic the studies focused on the metronidazole as an anti-parasitic medicine.…”
