Abstract: The study tested output voltage pulsations and pulsations of voltage on a flying capacitor when MAX 1759 integrated circuit of DC-DC converter is pumped in a voltage boost mode with an output voltage of 3.6V and 5.2V at an input voltage of 3.2V and a load current in the range of 5...100 mA. The analysis of the results obtained shows that the hysteresis comparator is the basis for the charge pump control. The algorithm for operating the charge pump system is described for the first time in detail

The results of the analysis of the features of the power exchange process in switched capacitors are presented. The methods are outlined to ensure high efficiency of charge pumping. The features of switching processes in transient operation modes are investigated. Circuit modeling made it possible to establish the sources of losses accompanying power conversion and heat release. The recommendations are made to optimize parameters of converter components and generate control signals.

Представлены результаты исследований работы инвертирующего DC-DC преобразователя с накачкой заряда и LDO, входящих в состав комбинированного двухполярного источника вторичного электропитания LM27762, в предельном режиме при входном напряжении 5.5 В и выходном напряжении -4.9 В. Измерялись пульсации напряжений при различных токах нагрузки от 10 до 250 мА на положительном полюсе летающего конденсатора, на выходе из системы накачки заряда и на выходе микросхемы. На основе полученной информации впервые показано, что при малых токах нагрузки примерно до 107 мА система накачки заряда работает в режиме пачек импульсов, а при токах выше 109 мА -в режиме накачки заряда с постоянной частотой. Результаты не подтверждают имеющееся в документации на микросхему сведения о том, что при предельном входном напряжении 5.5 В накачка заряда может войти в режим широтно-импульсной модуляции в горячих условиях. При работе в режиме пачек импульсов наличие LDO в микросхеме LM27762 уменьшает пульсации отрицательного напряжения на выходе, однако они значительно превышают значения, приведенные в документации на микросхему. Non-inductive (throttle-free) DC/DC converters are used in low-power and highly integrated electronic systems. A circuit analysis of the basic topologies of non-inductive DC/DC charge-pumped converters which perform typical DC-voltage conversions, i.e., lowering, raising and inverting, was carried out. The galvanic isolation between the input and output circuits of the converter was achieved even in the integrated version due to forming a time delay of the switches (Dead Time, DT), commuting a “flying” capacitor, which is transferring the charge to the storage capacitor and the load. A circuit of the DT driver was developed and its parameters, at which the through-current flow in the switch is prevented and the conditions of galvanic isolation of the input and output circuits are satisfied, were studied. The simulation was built with a popular Electronics Workbench software, widely used in training of specialists in radio electronics at higher educational institutions. The results of the study of the basic power characteristics of DC/DC conversion, such as output current and voltage, voltage transfer coefficient, efficiency, output equivalent resistance, were presented. The efficiency of conversion was estimated by varying the capacities of the “flying” and storage capacitors, the resistance of the switches in the closed state, and the frequency of switching. It is proved that the charge pumping method is simple and effective at low load currents (mA units), when both the voltage transfer coefficient from input to output and efficiency are high, and are approaching to “one”. However, with the increase of the load current, the voltage transfer coefficient and efficiency decrease, the output voltage ripples increase.
